Jinkou harbor is located in Jinkou Village, at about 36 kilometers northeast of Jimo, and west of T-Bay. It is the early commercial port in Jiaodong Peninsula, and the predecessor of Qingdao harbor.Jinkou harbor goes west to Lv Jia beach, east to White Sands estuary. It is wide and can accommodate enormous warship. Yantai Port, Qingdao Port, and Longkou Port all opened later than Jinkou harbor. In history, the rise and fall of Jinkou harbor had great impact on the economy and people in the south of T-Bay. According to "Jimo County" record, in 29 years of Qianlong Period (1764), Jinkou harbor was classified as the only tax port in Jimo County. It said that "it collected taxes according to the goods in the cargo, and there was non-fixed income", which showed that in the 18th century, Jinkou harbor was a full-scale port. Its heyday was after Jiaqing Period, and it was said to have 72 oil mills, three-masted wind ships, and more than 300 oilment rollers. At that time, ships shuttled everywhere, so most goods are exchanged here. For example, soybeans, peanuts, raw cakes, bristles, silk, radix, pears in Shandong Province, overseas cloth, tin, matches, and copper goods in Zhoucun, coal and porcelain in Zichuan of Boshan, woks in Shanxi Province, bamboo and sugar in the south and so on were all exchanged here. Most of the people here, especially from the south, lived on selling. When large merchant ships arrived and guns sounded, the vendors would be set in the harbor. People would jostle throng and vehicles, donkeys or even people would carry goods. The merchant ships in Jinkou harbor would access to Liaoning, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangzhou, Tanggu, Hong Kong and Macao, and even to Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia. So far, some sellers from Japan, Korea and South Asia can still remember Jinkou harborIn the end of Guangxu Period (1904-1907), the turning volume of the port was the most along the coast of Jiaodong Peninsula. Although Jinkou harbor had once prospered, after a century of time, however, it declined. To the late nineteenth century, Wulong River estuary gradually silted; therefore, the port in the vicinity of South China Sea stagnated.
